Netanyahu Heads to Washington as Trump Pushes for Israel-Hamas Cease-Fire

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel is set to meet with President Trump on Monday as attention has turned from Iran to a cease-fire for Gaza.According to The New York Times, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is scheduled to meet with President Trump on Monday, with the focus shifting from Iran to a potential cease-fire for Gaza.

The meeting, which will be Netanyahu’s third with Trump since his return to office, is seen as a victory for the prime minister following the joint Israeli-U.S. attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities last month. Analysts believe that the visit will boost Netanyahu’s popularity among voters as he heads into an election year.

However, past trips to the White House have brought surprises. During their last meeting in April, Trump announced that the U.S. would engage in direct talks with Iran, despite Netanyahu’s efforts to convince him to launch a military assault on the country.

This time, Trump is focused on brokering a cease-fire deal for Gaza, which would involve the release of hostages by Hamas and ultimately end the long-standing conflict in the Palestinian enclave. Israel has sent negotiators to Qatar, a mediating country, to try to reach an agreement with Hamas.

The U.S. is also working to restore calm along the Israel-Syria border through talks between the two countries.
