Live Updates: Iranian Missiles Hit Multiple Sites in Tel Aviv, Injuring at Least 22

The Iranian strikes came after Israel launched a wave of air attacks on Iran, destroying an aboveground nuclear enrichment plant near Natanz, the head of the U.N. nuclear watchdog agency said. The New York Times reports that at 10:18 p.m. on June 13, the current time in Jerusalem, Iran launched dozens of missiles towards Israel in retaliation for Israeli strikes on their nuclear sites. The attacks began after waves of Israeli strikes devastated Tehran’s military chain of command and critical nuclear facilities.

The Iranian missiles struck at least seven sites in Tel Aviv and its surrounding area, causing explosions and billowing smoke. Sirens blared across Israel, including in Jerusalem, as residents were instructed to seek shelter in bomb shelters.

According to the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps, the missiles were launched “forcefully and with precision” in response to Israel’s attacks on Iran, which have killed senior commanders, nuclear scientists, and civilians. However, the New York Times could not independently verify this claim.

The Israeli military stated that their Iron Dome air defense system intercepted some of the missiles, but at least seven sites in Tel Aviv were hit. Tracer fire could be seen from the ground, and video footage showed at least one large explosion in Tel Aviv.

Both Iran and Israel have claimed to have inflicted significant damage in the escalating conflict, but early reports are difficult to verify. The New York Times will continue to provide updates on the situation.
