Michelle Bowman, a Trump-appointed Fed official recently cited by JD Vance, has been gaining prominence.According to The New York Times, Michelle Bowman, a Fed governor appointed by former President Donald J. Trump, has been gaining prominence after being cited by JD Vance during the vice-presidential debate. Vance used Bowman’s speech to support his claim that new immigrants are contributing to America’s housing affordability crisis.

Although Bowman’s name may not be well-known outside of Washington, she is positioning herself as a prominent conservative voice at the central bank, especially with the possibility of a Trump presidency. She was first nominated to the Fed’s Board of Governors in 2018 and has a background in community banking and as an adviser in the Department of Homeland Security.

Unlike many Fed officials, Bowman does not have a doctoral degree in economics and has never been closely watched when it comes to interest rate decisions. However, her recent criticism of the Fed’s approach to bank rules and her rare move to push back on the central bank’s interest rate cut have raised her public profile.

In September, Bowman voted against the central bank’s decision to lower interest rates sharply, making her the first governor to dissent on economic policy since 2005. This has further increased her visibility and influence within the Fed.
