After Trump Spares Apple, Other Businesses Want a Tariffs Break

Retail executives huddled with the president amid fears that tariffs could result in higher prices.According to The New York Times, retail executives met with the president to discuss their concerns about the potential impact of tariffs on prices. The meeting was prompted by Apple CEO Tim Cook’s successful plea for a reprieve from tariffs on iPhones. While the White House maintains that tariffs will be applied across the board, many industries are seeking exemptions, citing the high cost and impracticality of producing certain products in the United States. On Monday, executives from major retailers such as Home Depot, Target, and Walmart met with President Trump to express their worries about potential price increases for consumers. A Target spokesman stated that the meeting was productive and that the company remains committed to providing value for American consumers. Walmart’s CEO has previously acknowledged the uncertainty surrounding tariffs and retail prices. Other companies did not comment on the meeting.
