Square Pilots Real-Time Bitcoin Payments in Vegas, Plans Full Availability To Customers in 2026

Square, the financial services company led by Jack Dorsey, is testing a new feature that allows users to make bitcoin payments using the Lightning Network at the Bitcoin 2025 conference in Las Vegas. This feature will enable attendees to purchase goods by scanning a barcode, with near-instant settlement handled by the Lightning Network and Square. The company plans to roll out this feature to a broader audience later this year and to all customers by 2026, pending regulatory approval. Square’s Bitcoin Product Lead, Miles Suter, stated that the company believes in an open, decentralized, fair, fast, and low-cost money system for everyone, and this feature is a step towards achieving that goal.
